Grocery Sacks–Household Helpers

This idea is probably older than I am (or at least as old as the plastic bags at the grocery store), but my post today describes a couple of uses for plastic grocery bags in household chores.

Put a broom into the bag and tie the handles around the broom head–this makes sweeping cobwebs from the […]

Flotsam–Now There’s a Junk Creator’s Word Choice

Today I feature the idea from a blog post aptly titled: “Don’t Throw That Out!  I Can Put a Radio in There!”from an amateur radio web site.  (Authored by Geoff Haines)
Geoff explains that:
As I have progressed as a builder of various widgets and gadgets for my ham radio experience, sometimes painfully, I might add, I […]

Junk Creation IS Productive!!!

I had a suggestion, last week, that I should post a list of explanations junk creators can give their spouses or significant others that would convey some use to their odd passtime.
When s/he asks you what you think you’re accomplishing by making new stuff from junk, just answer:

“I’m saving money.”
“I could be collecting shoes (or […]

Quantum Leap–Yet Again with the 4th Dimention!

My blogging group has decided that we’d celebrate Feb 29th and leap year with a look back 4 years and a look forward 4 years.
I thought I’d be strange and plug for the idea that I was junk creating in 2004 and will still be junk creating in 2012.
In 2004, I still had a knife […]

Old Ledgers Can Be Refurbished and Reused

Several weeks ago, I found an old ledger–the one pictured above.  I was amazed that someone hadn’t finished using it, since it still had many pages left.
You may have noticed that they book has two or three signatures ripped from the front.  This is really the only damage that the ledger sustained and its fixable.
The […]

Random, Interesting, Foody Links that Make Me Go Mmmmmm…

Since today is a very snowy day, and I’m stuck with a salad and a grapefruit for lunch (it’s my own fault, I was in too big of a hurry this morning), I thought I’d post some particularly good looking treats from some of the blogs I look in on from time to time.
If you […]

“Green” Wedding Show–Junk Creators Welcome?

There’s a giveaway I’ll tell you about.  It’s related, since they’re giving away tickets to the first Eco Wedding and Lifestyle show in Canada.
The link to their site is: http://www.treehuggingfamily.com/get-free-tickets-for-the-first-eco-wedding-lifestyle-show-in-canada/.
I think they do their topic plenty of justice, so I’ll just quote their post:
Canada is having their first Eco Wedding & Lifestyle Show (EWLS) Very cool. […]

Don’t Throw It Out–Modify It

Today’s quick how-to is actually a really fun project.
I got a planner for this year and it was spiral bound.  That makes it great, unless you keep the planner in your back pocket like I do.
I thought about replacing it with one that would still open after I sat down (the carnage my back side […]

Buying Something Old or is it New?

I always find it interesting that people are willing to pay someone else money to make them an item that either is or looks old.
For instance, the watchband at http://www.mwrforum.net/forums/showthread.php?t=11100 was ordered from Germany.
According to Paul:
Just received this custom strap from Jürgen last week. I wanted something that would look like it was original to the […]

What is it about making something out of Junk?

I have been wondering how it is that we can stay motivated to make stuff from what is normally considered junk?
I have come up with a list of possible reasons why those of us who create from junk continue to create with junk.
Here’s my list:

You’re naturally cheap or just can’t afford the new materials.
You get […]
