Metal Sculptures from Edouard Martinet

Je suis très heureux de présenter cet artiste. (I’m very happy to introduce this artist.)
Edouard Martinet has been working in Brittany France for several years, and he’s shown his work around France and abroad.
Working with found materials from junk yards and brocantes (flea markets), Edouard assembles his pieces without welding. As you look at his […]

My Junk Creation: Kitchen Message Center from Cutting Board

Forgive me. I like the lighting on my balcony, and I wanted you to see my petunias!
Things I learned: It’s better to be patient and get thicker cork board instead of settling with what’s available on your first trip to the craft store. And Elmer’s Stix All Gel Cement doesn’t come out of the tube […]

Recycled Chimes: Forks & Spoons Never Looked So Good

After Chili Dawg, might as well make it a themed day of clever ways to use discarded silverware.
Tempest in a Teapot says they scour the countryside looking for “odd bits of unwanted silver plate, brass, copper and pewter.” And they apparently do marvelous things with what they find. Visit them to see more.
A […]

Recycled Art: Chili Dawg

Chili Dawg is a quirky creation from junk artist Junkyard Gypsy at Etsy. This assemblage artist uses mostly vintage or antique materials, including at least one item that was landfill-bound.
I’m guessing Chili Dawg wouldn’t mind being used as a bird feeder on your patio. Or you could possibly use it as an herb garden if […]

House from Grain Silo!

I’m guessing a good paint job took away the grain smell. I hope, but there are worse smells.
Check out the image of the grain silo house at Offbeat Homes. Yeah, sorry. That’s not the house below!

But while I have your attention…
May’s poll in the sidebar is in sad shape since only four readers took […]

Observing Memorial Day

I took this photo of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery a few years ago. It’s an odd thing to say maybe, but the cemetery was an inspiring place. I highly recommend a visit if you’ve never been.
Please have a safe and peaceful Memorial Day.

Pendants from Jennifer Maestro — The Smooth Side of Pencils

Yesterday I showed you some awe-inspiring sculptures from Jennifer’s portfolio. Today, it’s time for something a little smoother, something you can wear!

That’s the lovely Stripe Dot Pencil Pendant for sale at Jennifer’s Etsy shop. I’ve never seen that side of pencils before.

And this is the refreshing “Hey blue, excuse me” Pencil Pendant, also for sale […]

Jennifer Maestre’s Sculptures — with Pencils!

This weekend, I’m excited to show you fascinating art from Jennifer Maestre.

Aurora

Asteridae
Can you tell that the artist was originally inspired by the form of the sea urchin?
In her artist’s statement, Jennifer says,
“The sections of pencils present aspects of sharp and smooth for two very different textural and aesthetic experiences. Paradox and surprise are integral in […]
