Junk Creation

Buying Something Old or is it New?

by Joshua Johnson on February 21st, 2008

I always find it interesting that people are willing to pay someone else money to make them an item that either is or looks old.

For instance, the watchband at http://www.mwrforum.net/forums/showthread.php?t=11100 was ordered from Germany.

According to Paul:

Just received this custom strap from Jürgen last week. I wanted something that would look like it was original to the watch and I think this fits the bill nicely. It was made from an old Czech army belt.

I suppose there weren’t any old belts around, so he ordered one from accross the world.  I really need to get into the watchband business…

I save and use all kinds of junk as you never know when you may find good use for it.My hubby doesn’t agree with me,but he knows who to ask if something needs fixing,or if he ran outta duct tape lol.I almost always have some sort of remedy.I’ve made lamps, jewelry, shelf, etc. from junk.

Ah. I understand that well. I’ve even had people ask me for random items to use in some form of object lesson. (Ironically, this same person was one that had suggested I didn’t need all the stuff that was laying around on my desk…)
