Cassette Tape Case turned Picture Frame
For this one, I actually picked a tape case from my mom’s garbage can (living with the parents for a few weeks until we move–there was a housing gap). She used the carrying case that this cassette case came from as a bag and had no need for the plastic case, since she uses CDs now.
I saw the black plastic and the square cut-outs and thought, right away, I could display some pictures in there! (Let’s face it, I’m hopeless.) I looked over the case, and saw the holes cut especially to hang from the wall and decided that instead of a mere picture frame, I’d make a shadow box that could also hold items that add decoration to the pictures (also show in picture).
To make this, you need the tape case (that is the most important part of this one) and pictures the right size. You need to measure the area your pictures will cover–don’t forget that there are a lot of little plastic things sticking out that were meant to hold tapes, so you need to measure the are inside of those, not just how big the squares themselves are.
To size the pictures, you can cut out existing pictures to exact dimensions or you can do what I did and take advantage of modern technology–I printed out the pictures exactly the size I needed, no measuring and very little cutting.
Now, place the pictures into the boxes, and tape the back side to the “frame” (tape case). This will hold them in, so tape them well, or else you may be undoing and redoing this project in the next few weeks/months.
Hang the shadow box on the wall and place items that add decorum to the pictures–glue or tape them in, or just leave them; the shadow box is like a little shelf.
Wala! Unique picture frame from something that was headed to the landfill! Is that magic or what?
