Junk Creation

Disposable Funnel

by Joshua Johnson on December 28th, 2007

Disposeable Funnel

Here’s another good use for all of that junk mail–make yourself a funnel that you can throw away when you’re done (without feeling guilty).

The best way to do this is to find the thickest, shiniest piece of junk mail you can, that way it will be much less likely to soak up water or oil, or whatever you happen to be using.  This is because the glossy paper has what is called sizing, and it is much more water repellent than notebook paper.

Once you have your paper, roll it up, with one end much smaller than the other.  This can take a couple of tries–sometimes its easier to just roll it up like a tube, and then make one end larger and the other end smaller.  Experiment a bit–what have you got to lose, it’s junk mail.

Once you have it rolled up just how you want it, tape the outside corner, and it should work until you don’t want it anymore.  Then, just throw it out like you were probably going to anyway.
