False Middle Book (Part 1)
I have always admired whoever decided that using a book to hide/store things and keep them safe. I decided to make my own. This is the first part of my “False Middle Book” project. (I am posting this as I go, so if there are changes, I’ll let you know.)
- Choose the book you plan on reworking. It needs to be a hardback book; they work much better than paperback. Make sure that this book is not your favorite–it will never be the same again. Also, make certain it fits with the other books on your shelf… (The other option is to pick a beat-up book and rebind it into something more interesting/fitting.)
- Glue the edges of all pages together. This sounds tedius, but it is much easier to cut a solid piece of glued paper than it is to cut several hundred (or thousand, if the book is big) loose pages and THEN glue them together.
- Cut the middle out. The above picture depicts how I removed the middle of mine. I folded printer paper to the size of compartment I needed in the book I chose. Once you have the first several pages cut out, it should get easier to carve out the middle of your book.
