Junk Creation

Hide Your Junk Creation Junk in Plain Sight

by Joshua Johnson on March 3rd, 2008

If you are like me, you constantly battle to find places to put the stuff you plan on using somewhere, sometime, somehow.  That’s why today’s how-to post deals more with storage of junk than it does making things with junk.

This how-to comes with a story.  My sister lived in a very small apartment, but she needed some space for storage.  What she did surprised me with how simple it was–but I didn’t notice until she showed me.  I’ll let you in on her secret.

What she did was cover a plastic storage bin with a table cloth and use it as a “coffee table.”  The best part (or one of the best parts) was that the “table” had a lip around the edge so I didn’t accidentally knock bowls or other stuff off of the table.  When my sister wanted something out of the bin, she just took the table cloth off and lid off of the bin and pulled it out.

I suppose that you could cover such a storage bin with a throw blanket and pillows and make it a footstool or ottoman.  I can even picture the right storage bin as a couch-side table.

Has anyone else ever seen this?
