Jennifer Maestre’s Sculptures — with Pencils!
This weekend, I’m excited to show you fascinating art from Jennifer Maestre.

Can you tell that the artist was originally inspired by the form of the sea urchin?
In her artist’s statement, Jennifer says,
“The sections of pencils present aspects of sharp and smooth for two very different textural and aesthetic experiences. Paradox and surprise are integral in my choice of materials.”
These images are from Jennifer’s portfolio and are used with permission. Sunday, I’ll feature some smooth stuff from Jennifer’s Etsy shop.

Those are beautiful! And, reading the artist’s site, I was really surprised to learn that the sculptures are sewn, rather than glued, psychically welded, or what-have-you.
More importantly, someone finally found a good use for colored pencils!
(Disclaimer: No offense to colored-pencil artists. It’s just that, other than Inktense, I’ve found colored pencils to contain high levels of suckage in the usability department.)

I read about Jennifer in one of my magazines (I forgot which one - I need Scanalog!) Her work is AMAZING!

Hi Jody! I love Jennifer’s work too. Very inventive.
Scanalog does seem like a nice organizational product, but I don’t have a scanner. So, that’s how the contest came up. I can’t review it myself. : )
