Meet the Sofa Wallet
I decided that if someone can make a wallet out of an old tennis racquet case, that I could make one out of cloth from an old couch.
To start, you need 4 pieces of material: 2 that measure: 3 3/4 in x 2 1/2 in and two that measure: 3 3/4 in x 8 3/4 in.
I like to stitch them in one continuous stitch, it makes things go faster, but it can be a bit hard to picture, at first. What you have to remember is that the two long pieces are going to hold your cash–so don’t stitch all of the sides up, or you won’t be able to put any money into the wallet.
So, position the two long pieces with the outsides out, just like you want it to look when you’re done. Now, put one of the smaller pieces up to the end you are going to start sewing. I turned the black side out, just for flavor.
Starting this stitch is probably the hardest part of this easy project. The trick is that you stitch the top of your wallet first. When you do this, start stitching from the inside corner of the small piece and STITCH IT TO THE CLOSEST LONG PIECE AND ONLY THE CLOSEST. Do this until you get to top/outside corner of the wallet.
Now, without cutting the thread/string, begin stitching through all three layers of cloth around the outside edge of the small piece and around the bottom. When you reach the end of the small piece, continue stitching through the two layers of long piece, until you get to where you want your second small piece. Stitch along the bottom/inside corner and through to the bottom/outside corner.
Continue the stitch around the side–but when you get to the top/outside corner, STITCH ONLY TO THE CLOSEST LONG PIECE, AGAIN. This means that, like before, you only want to stitch the smaller piece to the closest long piece.
When you get to top/inside corner of the small piece, knot off the string and you are finished.
Congratulations!!!
