Million Dollar Trash Pick

by Joshua Johnson on October 25th, 2007

Million Dollar Painting

I saw an interesting story a couple of days ago about the most lucrative trash find I’ve ever heard of (it comes from MSNBC.com): Painting Worth $1 Million Found in Trash.  (The painting is pictured above, courtesy of the article named.)

Aparently, a lady found a stolen painting in the trash and decided it was worth taking home to hang in her house.  Decades later, the lady found out that “her” painting had been stolen before it went into the trash.  The former owners paid her 55,000 for the painting–apparently it is estimated that the painting will be sold for ”up to $1 million at its Latin American Art auction on Nov. 20.”

What could I (or you, for that matter) do with $55,000?

Wow, that almost tempts me to sneak out with my flashlight and start checking the neighbors’ trash! I’d buy an overpriced building I’ve been thinking about that is perfect for an art studio/gallery and has a gorgeous view of the Susquehanna. It needs about 5 years hard work just to make it habitable and is priced like you could move in, but I just love the location and the bones of the building. A “free” 55,000 would make me take the plunge.

    No kidding!

I know there’d be some looming student debt that would dissapear if I could just find the right dumpster, somewhere…

If I EVER see any painting in a dumpster I’ll sure snatch it up! I could get out of debt with $55,000…and go back to school.
